Are there germline RUNX1 mutations which predispose to AML?

L: English

During the 61st American Society of Hematology (ASH) meeting in Orlando, US, the AML Global Portal was delighted to speak to Ravi Majeti, Stanford University, Stanford, US. We asked: Are there germline RUNX1 mutations which predispose to AML? Families carrying germline RUNX1 mutations are predisposed to the development of AML.

Ravi Majeti explained that there are always co-occurring mutations that give rise to AML and it is important to understand whether there are patterns that can be found in individuals with this germline condition that might help to understand why they progress. Preventive strategies could be transplantation-based or therapy-based.
